Poetry – Anthology & Street Poetry

Publishing : Book, Journal, & Online      Category : Poetry & Creative Writing

Poetry has always been an incredible tool for me to improve my writing more broadly, as the focus on brevity encourages highly-expressive work in the most limited form. While I began primarily with other forms of writing, poetry was always a cathartic and helpful creative outlet for me. In recent years, I have fortunately been able to add poetry to the list of writing industry sub-segments, in which I have worked in a professional capacity. My works have been featured both online and in print, including journals, poetry organization newsletters, curated collections, and my debut poetry anthology, “A Frostbitten Memory of a Stillborn Spring.” Penned under my nom de plume, “Lindy Kennedy,” my anthology collection is sold all over the world and has received a warm-welcome from reviewers and readers alike, recognized for accolades including the 5-star Readers’ Favorite Review award (quotation featured below).

“A Frostbitten Memory of a Stillborn Spring” is a beautiful and poignant collection of poems. … fascinating and engaging, well-written but above all heart-rending pieces. Lost love and the feelings you experience are shared in an amazingly powerful yet simple way … I can recommend this collection wholeheartedly.”  – Readers’ Favorite

Readers’ Favorite is one of the largest book review and award contest sites on the Internet. They have earned the respect of renowned publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Harper Collins, and have received the “Best Websites for Authors” and “Honoring Excellence” awards from the Association of Independent Authors.  For more information, please refer to the following link.

Further reviews of the book, like that of Barbara Scott (Write Touch Readers’ Award Contest winner, book reviewer, & author) touted that it “shows an admirable talent for describing life’s vicissitudes with sensitivity,” adding that the author “is capable of producing precious gems of phrasing that prove [his] poetic gifts throughout this collection.” Beyond my anthology collection, my award-winning works have been featured in various outlets, some of which are listed below.

Awards, Publications, & Features:

My writings have been featured by multiple poetry organizations, both print and online. Below I have included a select group of such publications, awards, and features, which I have received.

“MUSED” a Literary Review & Journal which features poetry, photography, paintings, and other storytelling mediums from artists across the world. A poem from my collection, “A Frostbitten Memory of a Stillborn Spring” was selected for publication in the Fall Equinox 2018 edition of Mused’s quarterly issue. The poem titled “Slivers of Love” is available to read in either the print or online edition of Mused.

By Me Poetry:

By Me Poetry is a global online poetry organization with a global following and audience reach of nearly one-hundred thousand subscribers in combined media-reach from various outlets. By Me Poetry has featured my work both online and in print, where they published “Poetica,” a curated collection of the organization’s favorite poems and poets throughout the year. I was selected to be featured in By Me Poetry’s inaugural edition of “Poetica,” Volume 1, where I was chosen by the North American branch of By My Poetry, as one of their “Favorite Pages of 2017.” With only twenty contests featured total, over the entire year, the selection was largely helpful in growing my online following.

Artlixir Poetry:

In 2017, Artlixir Poetry, an online poetry contest, selected me as one of only nine accounts total chosen for their “Best Poets of 2017” accolade. Throughout the year, I had been featured multiple times in their individual contests, however, the recognition of the quality displayed by my broader body of work was a rewarding experience for me.

HerHeartPoetry:

Her Heart Poetry is a literary organization, online magazine, and boutique printing press. A member of the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP), Her Heart Poetry runs quarterly and annual contests for featuring and publishing poets from all across the world. Throughout 2017 and 2018, I was selected to be featured in three different distribution channels, my poetry broadcast to their entire global audience.

Instagram & Street Poetry:

Originally beginning as a fun neighborhood project, I began to pursue poetry in a professional capacity after receiving a highly-positive response to my “street poetry” Instagram page. Part of the concept was to create engaging and thought-provoking art that one could encounter serendipitously, without the need to stray from the confines of their ordinary daily commute. I began typing up (with my beloved Royal Typewriter) and pasting my poems throughout New York City on public walls, benches, and subway columns, as a way to bring a small literary moment to passersby. Posting them on Instagram after, I found a highly engaged online audience for my work, some of whom traveled to find the secret locations like an artistic “scavenger hunt.” I continue to write and post new poems (both physically and online) and find the engagement with my audience, extremely rewarding. Below, I’ve embedded a live feed of my poetry account on Instagram. I hope you enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it.
